My Fridge Says the Nicest Things to Me

Vegetarian Stir Fry

Often it is assumed that a vegetarian weight loss plan is simple because meat is high in calories and fat. But eating vegetarian may not equal weight loss. There can be many vegetarian diet plans.

French Fries, Ice Cream, White Rice

These foods are vegetarian (not vegan tho), but don't provide the necessary nutrients that your body needs.

How much protein?

Don't worry about getting enough protein. Most meat eaters get too much protein. Build meals around protein sources that are naturally low in fat - don't load up on high fat cheeses to replace the meat.

Your vegetarian diet plan doesn't involve measuring the amount of vegetables and fruit on your plate. Portion size is not a problem- portion size is important for things that are bad for us.

There is no need for counting calories, phone apps or websites if you eat vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans.

But, you may be more comfortable with keeping track of your nutritional goals. allows you to keep track of your activity level, sodium intake, carb and fat intake, B12 goals etc. Once you save a few days of menus, it's easy to repeat by using your recent entries.

At least during the initial phase, keeping track may keep you on track

Low Carbohydrate Vegetarian Diet

Dried Beans

It's possible to eat a vegetarian diet which is high in protein and low in carbs. How much protein is needed for a healthy adult? When researching this question, you will find many different answers that range from 55g to 68g.

WebMD states that "As long as vegetarians are eating a variety of healthy foods, they should be able to get the recommended amount of protein from sources other than meat.

Adults in the U.S. are encouraged to get 10% to 35% of their day's calories from protein foods. That's about 46 grams of protein for women, and 56 grams of protein for men."

One 8-ounce container of yogurt has about 11 grams of protein, one cup of milk has 8 grams and one cup of dry beans has about 16 grams of protein.

A vegetarian diet plan means eating healthier proteins that lower your heart disease rate. Dr. Adam M. Bernstein at Harvard School of public Health in Boston says that by substituting 1 serving of red meat each day will reduce your risk of coronary heart disease by:

31% lower with 1 serving of nuts

13% lower with 1 serving of low fat dairy

A Vegetarian weight loss plan can be include low fat, low carbs, and low calorie. The best foods to detox include organic nuts, seeds, beans, legumes and seasonal fruit and vegetables! So, detox (cleaning out the "bad" things) can also be vegetarian. Go figure, these foods are good for you!
