Global Foods Mash Up or Mish Mash

What does global foods mean to you? Foodies know that putting together ingredients from different regions produces exciting new global foods or fusion. Although Hawaiian Pizza-combining pineapple on italian pizza has been around for a long time, new combinations are even more inspiring.


Spices

Stir fry is one of my go to meals. Take all the veggies you have and chop. The next question for my husband is "Do you want Mexican, Asian or Italian stir fry?"

Try flipping this to what can I put in a taco shell? or on a pizza? or a new spice to put on an old dish.

Fusion

t took me a while to understand what a "Fusion Restaurant" serves. Mixing foods from different global locations is the future. The US is a melting pot already, and the web makes everyone a neighbor who shares their special recipes across the world.

Comfort food is starting to get boring. People seem to have short attention spans and are looking for the next new thing. The big restaurant chains change their menus less often and the cooks aren't allowed to be really creative. The local independents can try new tastes more easily.

Greek Style Lasagna uses spinach and goat cheese along with mozzarella and parmesan. It looks like Italian lasagna, but has a surprizing taste.

Put the whole world on your plate with a fusion of taste combinations. Use global foods to create something new that is a mash up and not a mix up.

The world is certainly shrinking. No, not actually, but it seems smaller. Remember going back to your childhood home as an adult, and it seems SO small? We hear instantly by tweets or facebook about a uprising in a country on the other side of the world. Why shouldn't we be influenced by other cultures. And, food is part of it.

Be creative, but does Hawaiian tacos sound good?
